The Management Team is made up of senior executives and managers representing each of our locations across Europe and
Asia-Pacific. As a group of industry leaders they ensure the stability of the business, whilst exploring and managing opportunities for expansion and advancement in design and operational process.

 

Group

John Corcoran - Executive Chairman and CEO

John Corcoran brings nearly 30 years of international experience to his role as Executive Chairman and CEO of Global Switch, overseeing its strategy and operations around the world. His responsibilities include leading the management team in achieving its business goals and ensuring that Global Switch's planned expansion is closely aligned with the business objectives of the existing organisation.

As Executive Chairman of Global Switch since 2008, and having assumed the role of CEO in 2014, John has been a key adviser to the shareholders of Global Switch since 2004. He has steered the company from the challenging trading conditions of the early half of the last decade to its current position as one of the world's leading providers of data centre services to major IT service providers, enterprises and governments. During this period, John introduced improved management controls and standardised controls and procedures across the business. Since 2006, he has also overseen a significant capital investment programme to ensure that the business was positioned to benefit from the strong demand for its services which was anticipated over the following years. He has also helped develop major customer relationships with strategic partners. The company has now grown into the pre-eminent provider of data centre services in Europe and Asia-Pacific, with a network delivering services to seven Tier 1 cities in these regions.

John, who has an extensive background in both the property and finance industries, previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Multiplex Group, a large Australian diversified property group, where he was responsible for finance, treasury, administration, planning and major investments. Multiplex Group first became an investor in Global Switch in 2004 and subsequently sold its interest to the Reuben Brothers in 2006.

John's career in the finance industry began at Hambros Bank Limited where he served as a director of its corporate finance business in London, Hong Kong and Sydney where he helped lead the company's expansion in Asia-Pacific. During this period, John was involved in the bank's advisory, structured finance, capital markets and development capital businesses, where he worked on major transactions for leading companies around the world.

An Australian, John received Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Laws from the University of Sydney. In 1983, he was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as a solicitor. He has also attended a number of business management and other financial courses.

 

David Doyle - Chief Financial Officer

David joined Global Switch in 2014 as Chief Financial Officer.

David has a strong track record in leading strategic and operational business change and has extensive equity and debt capital markets experience. He has around 30 years of financial expertise gained from a range of financial and real estate companies.  He started his career working for Arthur Andersen and, after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1990, became a Senior Manager in the London Financial Markets team.  David joined Prudential plc in 1996 and was subsequently appointed Head of Corporate Finance, where amongst other projects he successfully negotiated around £1 billion of transactions.

After leaving Prudential in 2003, David held a number of CFO roles including for Egg plc where he was responsible for all finance, legal and company secretarial matters; for Colliers CRE plc where he was a main board director overseeing the Group's acquisition programme as well as updating their strategic, risk and operational management processes; and for Prologis where he led the European finance teams across ten countries including corporate accounting, planning and analysis, treasury, tax, property and development accounting. David's most recent role was CFO of Atrium European Real Estate where he was responsible for all financial affairs including leading equity and debt capital markets activities.

David is responsible for all financial aspects of the company including the presentation and reporting of financial information, capital markets transactions, acquisitions, maintaining effective and robust financial controls, and in leading both the local and Group financial teams.

 

Derek Allen - Group Director Operations

Derek joined Global Switch as Group Director Operations in 2012.

Derek has extensive knowledge operating large scale data centres, having over 30 years' industry experience, the last 12 of which have been working directly in the data centre industry for companies such as Cable & Wireless Worldwide and UBS, where inter alia he led the standardisation and introduction of best practice operating processes and was responsible for a number of significant data centre build projects.  Prior to these roles Derek worked for BT where he built up comprehensive engineering and facilities expertise. 

At Global Switch, Derek is responsible for the management of the Operations team and ensuring that the company maintains its best in class operating procedures across its global footprint.

 

Ali Ballantine - Group Director, Marketing & Communications

Ali has worked with Global Switch since 2009 and joined as Group Marketing & Communications Director in 2010, bringing with her over 20 years of expertise.

Following a career in the banking sector working for Goldman Sachs and Swiss Bank International, Ali's marketing, communications and business development career started in the late 80's when she joined an international legal practice in London. In the early 90's Ali moved into the property sector gaining invaluable experience working as Marketing Director for a number of the leading UK agents. Ali, who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, has also had experience of re-branding and launching companies.

Ali's main focus at Global Switch is the development and promotion of the brand and providing strategic direction on marketing Global Switch's product portfolio including the mission critical data centre environments.

 

Darren Culbard - Group Legal Counsel

Darren joined Global Switch as Group Legal Counsel in 2016.

Prior to joining Global Switch, Darren spent around five years as an EMEA group lawyer for Ricoh Europe Plc, where he worked regionally as well as globally for the Fortune 500 company. He gained extensive experience with multi-jurisdiction customer-facing agreements, the implementation of strong policies and processes across a group and supply chain contracts and arrangements. Prior to working for Ricoh, Darren was a group lawyer at Homeserve Plc, where he led and managed the legal support for that group's IT and supply chain arrangements.

At Global Switch, Darren advises the business on its legal and risk issues, manages its external law firms around the world, oversees corporate, commercial, real estate, construction and supply chain transactions and is responsible for the company's intellectual property portfolio.

Darren trained and worked as a solicitor with Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLG) and also worked at Pinsent Masons for over two years before going in-house.

 

Paul Woodward - Group Director Finance

Paul joined Global Switch in 2015 as Group Director Finance. Paul has 20 years' financial experience, 14 years of which have been gained working for IT and telecommunications providers.

He has a strong track record in business and financial strategy for publicly listed companies, driving change programmes, financial analysis and control, reporting and leading and building teams.  Prior to joining Global Switch, Paul held the role of Vice President, Finance for Colt's Infrastructure Services Unit, which was the largest division encompassing Operations, Business Process Outsourcing, IT and Technology. He has also held roles with FTSE 100 Energis Communications (now part of Vodafone) as well as AT&T amongst others.

At Global Switch, Paul is responsible for the leadership and oversight of finance, accounting and reporting activities. He works closely with the Executive Committee, Site Managing Directors and manages the local Finance Controllers and the Head Office Finance Team.

Paul has an Economics degree and is a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA).

 

Matthew Ryan - Regional Commercial Director, Asia-Pacific

Matthew joined Global Switch as Renewals Manager in 2009 before progressing to European Commercial Manager in 2011 and Group Commercial Manager in 2012. He was promoted to his current role of Regional Commercial Director, Asia-Pacific in 2015. Specialising in commercial transactions and valuation since 2003, Matthew has experience working both client side and as a supplier of commercial property and data centre services across multi-national jurisdictions.

Matthew is responsible for commercial management in the Asia-Pacific region, providing financial analysis and strategic direction for major transactions, capital and operating expenditure projects, new data centre developments and potential acquisitions. Matthew focuses on driving sales revenue whilst also providing commercial solutions which meet each customers unique data centre requirements. Additionally, Matthew oversees the valuation of the regions assets ensuring that performance is realised in terms of capital value and that consistency and asset value enhancement is maintained.

Johan Groeneweg - Managing Director, Amsterdam

Johan joined Global Switch as Managing Director, Amsterdam in 2009.

He previously held executive management positions at Phillips Communication Systems, Genronics ICT and KPN working in sales and marketing and operational capacities.  He was also Director/Chairman of the board for a number of the VolkerWessels working companies.

Johan brings experience into service management, merger and acquisitions, organisational change and new business strategy and now holds responsibility for both the operational and commercial management of Global Switch Amsterdam.

Johan studied Business Economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Drs./MSc.) and also holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (Ing.)

 

Aman Khan - Managing Director, Frankfurt

Aman joined Global Switch in 2015 as Managing Director, Frankfurt.

Aman has over 20 years' senior management experience gained in the IT and Telecommunications markets and has worked in several senior strategical and operational management roles in Germany and internationally.  Prior to joining Global Switch, he was Managing Director Europe with Dimension Data, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Group.  During a five year period he successfully developed a multi-million dollar data centre and cloud business for NextiraOne which was acquired by Dimension Data.

Prior to Dimension Data, Aman has worked for several international businesses such as Star Alliance, PSINet, GlobalOne, and General Electric.

Aman leads our business operations in Germany and his focus will be on the continuing development and future expansion of Global Switch's business in this region.

 

Kelvin Fong - Managing Director, Hong Kong

Kelvin joined Global Switch as Managing Director, Hong Kong in 2013.

Kelvin has a highly successful track record of building and managing data centre operations across the Asia-Pacific region. Most recently he was the Regional Critical Facilities Management Head APAC for Citigroup where his primary responsibility was the management of their data centre portfolio across the region. Prior to this he was responsible, as Executive Director for Asia Tone, for overseeing the design, construction and operation of a new 15,000 sq m data centre in Hong Kong.

Kelvin is responsible for securing customer commitments for Global Switch's new Tier III+ 45,000 sq m gross data centre on the Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Industrial Estate. Kelvin works closely with the Global Switch design and development team and will be creating an operational team as the project progresses with the first phase forecast to launch in 2015.

Kelvin has a Master's Degree in Science from the University of Bath (United Kingdom), a Bachelor Degree in Electrical & Electronics from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and is a member of the Institution of Engineering Technology, United Kingdom.

 

John Stevenson - Managing Director, London

John joined Global Switch in 2015 as Managing Director, London.

John has over 20 years' senior management experience in IT services and data centres and has managed national as well as international businesses. He has held senior management positions in all key business areas including sales, operations, marketing, product portfolio, mergers and acquisitions and has an impressive track record of growing businesses from a commercial, financial, operational and customer satisfaction perspective.

During his career he has built up extensive data centre knowledge and prior to joining Global Switch was Chief Operating Officer for SunGard Availability Services where he was responsible for the strategy, sales, finance and day-to-day operations for the European region, which encompassed 12 data centres.  Prior to this John was Managing Director at Globe International Associates and before that he was with Atos Origin, a leading international IT digital services company.

John is responsible for maintaining a best in class operational environment for the London Campus whilst continuing to drive business development and new initiatives.

 

Markel Gruber - Managing Director, Madrid

Markel joined Global Switch as Managing Director, Madrid in 2005.

Prior to that he worked with major IT manufacturers including EMC², SUN Microsystems, NCR-Teradata, UNISYS and Burroughs. He completed projects based on high performance computing technologies in mission-critical environments such as airlines and utilities and developed large accounts throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

Since joining Global Switch Madrid, Markel has positioned it as a leading data centre and key partner for major IT manufacturers, telecoms providers and system integrators.

Markel is a member and associate of IT councils and commerce chambers, promoting and encouraging business development in the Spanish market. He is also an undergraduate in IT, and holds an MBA from ESEM.

 

Ralph Montandon - Managing Director, Paris

Ralph Montandon joined Global Switch as Managing Director, Paris in 2013.

Ralph has around 30 years' experience working in the data centre and information technology sectors for a diverse range of companies.  Prior to joining Global Switch he was President at Microsens, a developer, manufacturer and seller of world-wide active components for fibre optic networks into data centres. Prior to this he was in France General Manager for Emerson Network Power, a global company delivering solutions to protect and optimise critical data centre infrastructure, where he led the restructuring of the company and was responsible for sales and services of data centre infrastructure solutions.

Ralph oversees all aspects of the campus from customer relationships through to the smooth running of the two mission critical data centres of Global Switch's Paris campus.

 

Peter Turvey - Managing Director, Singapore

Peter joined Global Switch as Commercial Manager for Sydney in 2007  and in the same year was appointed  as Managing Director, Sydney. In 2011 he was appointed to his current role of Managing Director, Singapore and has relocated to Singapore.

Peter's marketing and general management experience includes 35 years with Procter & Gamble and Cadbury Schweppes. During this time he held regional managing director responsibilities for both companies in the Middle East and Africa and was a member of the senior management group, steering strategic business expansion in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe.

Peter brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Global Switch and has successfully led the business through a further period of rapid business expansion, process enhancement and organisational development.

Peter holds an Honours Degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

 

Damon Reid - Managing Director, Sydney

Damon joined Global Switch as Operations Manager Sydney in 2007. During 2007 Damon also developed the customer services department for Sydney and before moving into the position of Commercial Manager, Sydney in 2008. With a wealth of experience in sales and marketing Damon successfully lead the Sydney facility through a period of rapid expansion before moving into the regional role of Commercial Director Asia Pacific in 2009. In 2011 he was appointed to his present role of Managing Director, Sydney.

Damon is an experienced industry professional with a broad experience base that crosses the operations, sales and customer service, and technical elements of the data centre business.
