Global Switch Announces Expansion in Paris Campus
november 28, 2011
Global Switch, the leading carrier-neutral multi-tenanted
wholesale data centre provider, has officially launched a major
extension to its Paris data centre campus. The project has
been delivered on budget and ahead of programme.
The new 17,200 sq m building (to be called Paris West) is
adjacent to the existing Paris East building creating the city's
largest data centre campus of around 52,000 sq m. With 48 MW
of diverse power from two separate incoming supplies, the campus
has one of the highest power densities in France offering between
800 watts per sq m and 2,400 watts per sq m, whilst remaining close
to the centre of Paris.
The Tier 3+ world class Paris West has one of the largest
technical floor plates in France and incorporates some of the
latest environmental design features( including reconfigurable
power and cooling distribution, variable speed motors and fresh air
cooling systems). The data centre has been designed with a
PUE of under 1.4. Space has already been handed over to
customers.
Other notable design features include an ability to ensure
concurrent maintainability on major plant whilst ensuring a maximum
level of fault tolerance, and the implementation of leading edge
resilient industrial scale control systems throughout allowing for
full monitoring, reporting and real-time system
interrogation. Paris West also incorporates leading edge
state of the art redundant power management systems.
The construction of the Paris West received a Bouygues Ecosite
standard based around criteria including environmental risk, waste
and noise management, water and air quality, biodiversity aspects
and energy savings. The building will also be targeting other
accreditations.
Yves Tavernier, Global Switch's Managing Director, Paris said
"our investment of around €200 million in the West Building as well
as mechanical and electrical upgrades to our Paris campus was a
direct response to the needs of our existing customers and to
demand from leading French companies within the financial services,
digital media, and IT service provider sectors. Our expansion
of the space and power in our Paris data centre campus will ensure
that we are able to support our customers' future growth
plans."
"At Global Switch we are committed to reducing the impact of our
data centres on the environment and Paris is no exception. In
addition to the Ecosite standard awarded by Bouygues, waste heat
energy output from the data centre will be used within the local
community."
Global Switch is a Reuben Brothers company.
