Global Switch Celebrates 25 Years of Leading Data Centre Operations

From the dotcom boom to the AI revolution: Global Switch marks 25 years powering the digital economy

Global Switch, one of the world’s leading data centre operators, is celebrating more than 25 years of data centre operations – marking a significant milestone in its history of delivering mission-critical digital infrastructure to businesses around the world.

While the Global Switch brand marks 25 years, the story of its London campus stretches back even further. With its first London data centre becoming operational in the late 1990s, the campus helped lay the foundations for what would become a global platform of strategically located data centres, now known as Global Switch. Building on its success in London, Global Switch expanded into major international connectivity hubs, including Madrid and Paris, establishing a reputation for delivering resilient infrastructure to customers around the world.

Reaching more than 25 years of continuous operation places Global Switch among a select group of data centre operators with a proven track record of reliability in an industry characterised by constant technical change. The company has supported multiple generations of digital transformation, from the growth of the internet and cloud computing to today’s increasingly AI-driven environment.

Ashley Muldoon, Chief Executive Officer at Global Switch, said:

“This is an important milestone for Global Switch and a testament to the trust our customers have placed in us over decades. Since opening our first data centre in London, we have continuously evolved alongside the changing needs of businesses and technology providers, investing in the infrastructure, expertise and innovation required to support each successive wave of digital infrastructure.

Over the last five years alone, we’ve helped lay the foundations for the next AI and HPC-powered wave of digital innovation by introducing the latest technologies, such as advanced liquid-cooling, and pursuing growth opportunities across Asia Pacific.

Longevity depends on constantly anticipating what our customers will need next, and building the infrastructure to meet those evolving demands.”

As customer requirements have evolved, Global Switch has continually adapted its facilities to support increasingly sophisticated workloads. Through sustained investment and engineering innovation, the company’s data centres have evolved into highly flexible environments capable of supporting advanced power densities, modern cooling technology and AI-ready infrastructure.

The company’s continued investment programme reflects the growing strategic importance of digital infrastructure globally. Recent developments across its campuses have focused on enhancing capacity, connectivity, sustainability and operational efficiency to ensure customers can meet rising demand for data-intensive services.

Global Switch’s success over the last quarter century has been built not only on its infrastructure, but also on the dedication of its colleagues and the strong partnerships it has developed with customers, suppliers and the communities in which it operates.

As the company celebrates 25 years of operations, it remains focused on supporting the next generation of digital innovation and continuing its role as a trusted partner in an increasingly connected world.
